I clearly remember it was the day of 22nd Dec 1987. Almost 23 years we have walked across from that day. But that day is still fresh in my memory as if it was yesterday, the day my Dad purchased a TV for us.
My Mom always told me that whatever you achieve in life and whatever you get in your life, the nostalgia, the love, the memory of the first achievement is always way ahead against subsequent achievements.
I remember the night of 21st Dec 1987, perhaps my first sleepless night reason being the first TV in our home. From 22nd onwards even I will boast among my friends of TV shows (which I hardly understood at that time). The Big day came and all of our family went to purchase TV (Dad, Mom and Bro). I don’t remember rather I didn’t understand the round of negotiations my Dad was having the shop owner, a typical Seth Ji as there were no mall culture those days. I was eagerly waiting for the deal to be finalized and also the model. Obviously I had no clue on the both.
Finally as my Bro and I were anxiously waiting for the above to be finalized, my father called both of us and asked on whose name the TV should be purchased (the name on guarantee card). Perhaps the only time I was fast enough from my bro rather he intentionally was slow (no credits to him). I reached to the counter much before my bro could reach. And thus I was the registered owner of FIRST TV, KONARK VISION (the TV name, not sure the brand exists today or not) of our home.
Finally the TV came to our home by a cycle rickshaw and was fixed. Frankly I don’t remember the day after as I was a kid and slept early.
The next day I woke up early, and switched on the TV and to my utmost disappointment nothing was being aired. I was totally disappointed and went to my Father. He told me that DD has a limited time of telecast and the telecast will start very soon.
I remember watching news first time on TV with lots of excitement.Today I may get all tech savvy TV (LCD, LED, Plasma) but the nostalgia and love of my first KONARK TV will never be diminished……………………….

In our township, TV was considered a luxury until early 90's. I still remember watching 1986 mexico football worldcup at one of my neighbour's house. Miss those old days!!!
